LeeAnn Kittle proudly represented Denver Public Schools as a speaker at the first ever White House Summit for Sustainable and Healthy K-12 School Buildings and Grounds. This summit addressed over 90 students, teachers, administrators, and facilitators alongside the U.S. Department of Education, The EPA, and the U.S. Department of Energy at the White House in April 2024. Together, we shared ideas and initiatives to tackle the climate crisis, improve learning and labor conditions, and protect student health on campuses across the United States.

"Education Leaders Driving Climate Action" is part of the convening called Education and Climate Action, held at the Harvard Graduate School of Education on October 27, 2022. We’ll look broadly at how education systems can begin to grapple with their own climate footprint and nurture learning communities that can drive solutions.
LeeAnn Kittle, Executive Director of Sustainability, testified at the Colorado Capitol in support of Senate Bill 24-014, which authorizes school districts to offer the Seal of Climate Literacy diploma endorsement to high school students who have gained skills and knowledge in addressing climate change from both coursework and experiential learning. Governor Polis signed this bill into law in May 2024.
Drawing inspiration from real-world examples, LeeAnn Kittle explored how educational institutions are becoming catalysts for climate action and innovation centers for climate advocacy. As Executive Director of Sustainability for Denver Public Schools, Kittle showcased success stories of youth-led initiatives that have made significant strides in climate advocacy and shared how these movements influence a community beyond the classroom, drive accountability from businesses to world leaders, and influence policy at the highest levels.
